John
16:23,27 – In that day you will no longer ask me anything.
Very truly I tell you, my Father will give you whatever you ask in my name…No,
the Father himself loves you because you have loved me and have believed that I came from
God.
Matthew 7:7 – “Ask and it will
be given to you; seek and you will find; knock and the door will
be opened to you.
John 14:13 – And I will do whatever you
ask in my name, so that the Father may be
glorified in the Son.
Application:
- · Persistent prayer is being emphasized.
- · Christ is explaining why the disciples can come directly to the Father in prayer: They have loved and trusted in Jesus, and in love God will hear their requests in Jesus’ name.
- · It is prayer aimed at carrying forward the work Jesus did—prayer that He Himself will answer.
