John 17:18-21 – As you sent me into the world, I have sent them into
the world. For them I sanctify myself, that they too may be truly sanctified. “My
prayer is not for them alone. I pray also for those who will believe in me
through their message, that all of them may be one, Father, just as you
are in me and I am in you. May they also be in us so that the world may
believe that you have sent me.
1 Corinthians 1:2-3 –
To the church of God in Corinth, to those sanctified in Christ Jesus and
called to be his holy people, together with all
those everywhere who call on the name of our Lord Jesus Christ—their Lord and
ours: Grace and peace to you from God our Father and the Lord Jesus
Christ.
Application:
- · Jesus died on the cross not only to save us but also to consecrate us to God’s service.
- · “Sanctified in Christ Jesus” means consecrated to the service of God through Christ’s saving action in their lives—as Jesus had “sanctified” Himself.
- · Jesus was confident that His followers would spread the gospel, and He prayed for those who would believe as a result.
- · We may long for heaven, but it is on earth that our work is done.
