John 17:4-6,14 – I have brought you glory on earth by finishing the work you gave me
to do. And now, Father, glorify me in your presence with the glory I had with
you before the world began.
“I have revealed you to those whom you gave me out of the world. They were
yours; you gave them to me and they have obeyed your word…I have given them your word and the world has hated them, for they are not
of the world any more than I am of the world.

4:34 – “My food,” said
Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.

1:18 – No one has ever seen God, but the one and only Son, who is
himself God and is in
closest relationship with the Father, has made him known.

ask in my name, so that the Father may be
glorified in the Son.
Application:
- · John often mentions that Jesus depended on the Father and did the work the Father sent Him to do.
- · “The world” is the world that is hostile to God and God’s people.
- · Since no human being can see God as He really is, those who saw God saw Him in a form He took upon Himself temporarily for the occasion.
- · “In my name” is not simply prayer that mentions Jesus’ name but prayer in accordance with all that the person who bears the name is.
