John
15:11-13 – I have
told you this so that my joy may be in you and that your joy may be complete. My command is this: Love each other as I have
loved you. Greater love has no one than this: to lay
down one’s life for one’s friends.
John 13:34 – “A new command I give you: Love one another. As I have loved you, so you must love
one another.
John 10:11 – “I am the good shepherd. The good shepherd lays down his life
for the sheep.
Ephesians 5:25-27 – Husbands, love your wives, just as Christ loved the church and gave himself up for her to make her holy, cleansing her by
the washing with water through the word, and to present her to himself as a radiant church, without stain or wrinkle or any other
blemish, but holy and blameless.
Application:
- · The Christian way is never dreary, for Jesus desires His disciples’ joy to be complete.
- · Our standard is Christ’s love for us.
- · Christ’s love was demonstrated not only in His words but also in His sacrificial death.
- · Jesus said that the good shepherd is willing to die for His sheep.
- · To give oneself up to death for the beloved is a more extreme expression of devotion than the wife is called upon to make.
