I Will Send

John 15:22-26 – If I had not come and spoken to them, they would not be guilty of sin; but now they have no excuse for their sin. Whoever hates me hates my Father as well. If I had not done among them the works no one else did, they would not be guilty of sin. As it is, they have seen, and yet they have hated both me and my Father. But this is to fulfill what is written in their Law: ‘They hated me without reason.’ “When the Advocate comes, whom I will send to you from the Father—the Spirit of truth who goes out from the Father—he will testify about me.

Psalm 35:19 – Do not let those gloat over me who are my enemies without cause; do not let those who hate me without reason maliciously wink the eye.

John 14:16-17,26 – And I will ask the Father, and he will give you another advocate to help you and be with you forever—the Spirit of truth. The world cannot accept him, because it neither sees him nor knows him. But you know him, for he lives with you and will be in you…But the Advocate, the Holy Spirit, whom the Father will send in my name, will teach you all things and will remind you of everything I have said to you.

John 1:7 – He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.

Application:

• ·         In the end God’s purpose is always accomplished, despite the belief of those who reject Jesus that they have successfully opposed it.
• ·         The Spirit will always stand by Christ’s people.
• ·         “Remind you of everything I have said to you” was crucial for the life of the church—and for the writing of the New Testament.
• ·         In essence and in action the Spirit is characterized by truth.
• ·         But the Spirit was “with” Jesus’ disciples and would be “in” them.
