Acquitting The Guilty

Proverbs 17:8,14-15 – A bribe is seen as a charm by the one who gives it; they think success will come at every turnStarting a quarrel is like breaching a dam; so drop the matter before a dispute breaks out. Acquitting the guilty and condemning the innocent—the Lord detests them both.

Proverbs 18:5 – It is not good to be partial to the wicked and so deprive the innocent of justice.

Lamentations 3:36 – To crush underfoot all prisoners in the land, to deny people their rights before the Most High, to deprive them of justice—would not the Lord see such things?

Application:

  • ·         Favoritism of any kind was condemned in the law.
  • ·         People might deprive people of justice, but God never does. Contrary to what the wicked think, the Lord does see and will call to account.
  • ·         “A bribe is seen as a charm” is a sad commentary on human behavior.
