Leviticus 19:6-11 – It shall be eaten on the day you sacrifice
it or on the next day; anything left over until the third day must be burned up. If any of it is eaten
on the third day, it is impure and will not be accepted. Whoever eats it will
be held responsible because they have desecrated what is holy to the Lord; they must be cut off from their people.
“‘When you reap the harvest of your land, do not reap to the very edges of your field or gather the gleanings of
your harvest. Do not go over your vineyard a second
time or pick up the grapes that have fallen. Leave them for the poor and the foreigner. I am the Lord your God. “‘Do not steal. “‘Do
not lie. “‘Do not deceive one another.
Leviticus
7:16 – “‘If, however, their offering
is the result of a vow or is a freewill offering, the
sacrifice shall be eaten on the day they offer it, but anything left over may
be eaten on the next day.
Ruth 2:3 – So she went out, entered a
field and began to glean behind the harvesters. As
it turned out, she was working in a field belonging to Boaz, who was from the
clan of Elimelek.
Exodus 20:7 – “You shall not
misuse the name of the Lord your
God, for the Lord will
not hold anyone guiltless who misuses his name.
Application:
- · A vow was a solemn promise to offer a gift to God in response to a divine deliverance or blessing.
- · Divine providence was at work in Ruth relationship with Boaz.
- · Misuse of the name of the Lord is done by profaning God’s name—e.g., by swearing falsely by it, as on the witness stand in court.
