Fellowship Offering

Leviticus 19:4-5 – “‘Do not turn to idols or make metal gods for yourselves. I am the Lord your God. “‘When you sacrifice a fellowship offering to the Lord, sacrifice it in such a way that it will be accepted on your behalf.

Exodus 20:4 – “You shall not make for yourself an image in the form of anything in heaven above or on the earth beneath or in the waters below.

Leviticus 11:44 – I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground.

Leviticus 3:1 – “‘If your offering is a fellowship offering, and you offer an animal from the herd, whether male or female, you are to present before the Lord an animal without defect.

Application:

  • ·         Because God had no visible form, any idol intended to resemble Him would be a sinful misrepresentation of Him.
  • ·         Israel was to be totally consecrated to God. Because of who God is and what He has done, His people must dedicate themselves fully to Him.
  • ·         Two basic ideas are included in the fellowship offering: peace and fellowship. The fellowship offering was the only sacrifice of which the offerer might eat a part. Fellowship was involved because the offerer, on the basis of the sacrifice, had fellowship with God and with the priest, who also ate part of the offering. At the dedication of the temple, Solomon offered 20,000 cattle and 120,000 sheep and goats as fellowship offerings over a period of 14 days.
