Leviticus 20:6,27-21:5
– “‘I will set my face against
anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by
following them, and I will cut them off from their people. ..“‘A man or woman who is a medium or spiritist among you must be put to
death. You are to stone them; their blood will be on their own heads.’”
The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the priests, the
sons of Aaron, and say to them: ‘A priest must not make himself
ceremonially unclean for any of his people who die, except for a close
relative, such as his mother or father, his son or daughter, his brother, or an unmarried
sister who is dependent on him since she has no husband—for her he may make
himself unclean. He must not make himself unclean for
people related to him by marriage, and so defile himself. “‘Priests
must not shave their heads or shave off the edges of their beards or cut their bodies.
Exodus
28:1 – “Have Aaron your
brother brought to you from among the Israelites, along with his sons Nadab and
Abihu, Eleazar and Ithamar, so
they may serve me as priests.
Hebrews 11:19 – Abraham reasoned
that God could even raise the dead, and so in a manner of speaking he did
receive Isaac back from death.
Application:
- · Consulting a medium was no less a sin than being one. Only God was to be consulted—through either the priest or a prophet.
- · Priests offered gifts and sacrifices for sins and dealt gently with those who were ignorant and were going astray. Another important function of the priests was to read the law of Moses to the people and remind them of their covenant obligations.
- · So strong was Abraham’s faith that he actually believed that God would raise Isaac from the dead if necessary, an event that did occur figuratively when the substitute ram was provided.
