Spiritists

Leviticus 19:18,29-34 – “‘Do not seek revenge or bear a grudge against anyone among your people, but love your neighbor as yourself. I am the Lord“‘Do not degrade your daughter by making her a prostitute, or the land will turn to prostitution and be filled with wickedness. “‘Observe my Sabbaths and have reverence for my sanctuary. I am the Lord. “‘Do not turn to mediums or seek out spiritists, for you will be defiled by them. I am the Lord your God. “‘Stand up in the presence of the aged, show respect for the elderly and revere your God. I am the Lord. “‘When a foreigner resides among you in your land, do not mistreat them. The foreigner residing among you must be treated as your native-born. Love them as yourself, for you were foreigners in Egypt. I am the Lord your God.

Leviticus 20:6 – “‘I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people.

Leviticus 11:44 – I am the Lord your God; consecrate yourselves and be holy, because I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature that moves along the ground.

Exodus 12:48 – “A foreigner residing among you who wants to celebrate the Lord’s Passover must have all the males in his household circumcised; then he may take part like one born in the land. No uncircumcised male may eat it.

Application:

  • ·         Consulting a medium was no less a sin than being one. Only God was to be consulted—through either the priest or a prophet.
  • ·         Israel was to be totally consecrated to God. Because of who God is and what He has done, His people must dedicate themselves fully to Him.
  • ·         Only those consecrated to the Lord in covenant commitment could partake of Passover; only for them could it have its full meaning.
  • ·         Love your neighbor as yourself was quoted by Christ, Paul and James. Rabbi Nahmanides caught their sentiments: One should place no limitations upon the love for the neighbor, but instead a person should love to do an abundance of good for his fellow being as he does for himself.
