Sabbath

Leviticus 23:1-3 – The Lord said to Moses, “Speak to the Israelites and say to them: ‘These are my appointed festivals, the appointed festivals of the Lord, which you are to proclaim as sacred assemblies. “‘There are six days when you may work, but the seventh day is a day of sabbath rest, a day of sacred assembly. You are not to do any work; wherever you live, it is a sabbath to the Lord.

Exodus 20:9-10 – Six days you shall labor and do all your work, but the seventh day is a sabbath to the Lord your God. On it you shall not do any work, neither you, nor your son or daughter, nor your male or female servant, nor your animals, nor any foreigner residing in your towns.

Hebrews 4:9-10 – There remains, then, a Sabbath-rest for the people of God; for anyone who enters God’s rest also rests from their works, just as God did from his.

Application:

  • ·         The Sabbath was a sign of the covenant between God and Israel at Mount Sinai.
  • ·         God’s rest may still be entered by faith in His Son.
  • ·         I need to cease my efforts to gain salvation by my own works and rest in the finished work of Christ on the cross.
