Cut Him Off From His People

Leviticus 20:1-3,6 – The Lord said to Moses, “Say to the Israelites: ‘Any Israelite or any foreigner residing in Israel who sacrifices any of his children to Molek is to be put to death. The members of the community are to stone him. I myself will set my face against him and will cut him off from his people; for by sacrificing his children to Molek, he has defiled my sanctuary and profaned my holy name…“‘I will set my face against anyone who turns to mediums and spiritists to prostitute themselves by following them, and I will cut them off from their people.

Exodus 20:3,5-6 – “You shall have no other gods before me…You shall not bow down to them or worship them; for I, the Lord your God, am a jealous God, punishing the children for the sin of the parents to the third and fourth generation of those who hate me, but showing love to a thousand generations of those who love me and keep my commandments.

Jeremiah 7:30 – “‘The people of Judah have done evil in my eyes, declares the Lord. They have set up their detestable idols in the house that bears my Name and have defiled it.

Leviticus 15:31 – “‘You must keep the Israelites separate from things that make them unclean, so they will not die in their uncleanness for defiling my dwelling place, which is among them.’”

Application:

  • ·         God requires exclusive allegiance.
  • ·         God will not put up with rivalry or unfaithfulness.
  • ·         No deity, real or imagined, is to rival the one true God in my heart and life.
  • ·         Consulting a medium was no less a sin than being one. Only God was to be consulted—through either the priest or a prophet.
  • ·         Since God dwelt in the tabernacle, any unholiness could result in death if the people came into His presence.
