Deuteronomy
9:7-10 – Remember
this and never forget how you aroused the anger of the Lord your God in the wilderness. From the day
you left Egypt until you arrived here, you have been rebellious against the Lord. At Horeb you
aroused the Lord’s wrath so that he was
angry enough to destroy you. When I went up
on the mountain to receive the tablets of stone, the tablets of the covenant that the Lord had made with you, I stayed on the
mountain forty days and forty nights; I ate no bread and drank
no water. The Lord gave me two stone tablets inscribed by the
finger of God. On them were all the commandments the Lord proclaimed to you on the mountain out of
the fire, on the day of the assembly.
Deuteronomy 4:10 – Remember the day
you stood before the Lord your
God at Horeb, when he said to me, “Assemble the people before
me to hear my words so that they may learn to
revere me as long as they live in the land and
may teach them to their children.”
Psalm 2:12 – Kiss his
son, or he will be angry and your way will lead
to your destruction, for his wrath can flare up in a moment. Blessed are all who take refuge in him.
Exodus
8:18-19 – But when the magicians tried to produce gnats by their
secret arts, they could not. Since the gnats were on people and animals
everywhere, the magicians said to Pharaoh, “This is the finger of God.” But Pharaoh’s heart was hard and he would not listen, just as the Lord had said.
Application:
- · The divine call to Israel to remember the Lord’s past redemptive acts—especially how He delivered them from slavery in Egypt—is a common theme in Deuteronomy and is summarized: “Remember the days of old”.
- · Submission to an Assyrian king was expressed by kissing his feet.
- · The finger of God was a figure of speech referring to God’s miraculous power. Jesus drove out demons “by the finger of God”.
