Deuteronomy
6:6-7 – These
commandments that I give you today are to be on your hearts. Impress them on your children. Talk about them when you sit at
home and when you walk along the road, when you lie down and when you get up.
Jeremiah 31:31,33 – “The days are coming,” declares the Lord, “when I will make a new covenant with
the people of Israel and with the people of Judah…“This is the covenant
I will make with the people of Israel after that time,” declares the Lord. “I will put my law in their minds and
write it on their hearts. I will be their God, and they
will be my people.
Proverbs 22:6 – Start children
off on the way they should go, and even when they are old they will not
turn from it.
Ephesians 6:4 – Fathers, do not exasperate your children; instead,
bring them up in the training and instruction of the Lord.
Application:
- · God has written the law on our hearts so that it effectively governs our lives, in contrast to the ineffectiveness of merely presenting it in writing, even when inscribed on durable stone.
- · As the old covenant was put into effect with the shedding of the blood of animals, so the new was put into effect with the shedding of the blood of Christ.
- · Instruction and discipline are primarily involved in starting children off. The way they should go is the right way, the way of wisdom.
- · Fathers must surrender any right they may feel they have to act unreasonably toward their children.
