Ancestors

Deuteronomy 7:10-13 – But those who hate him he will repay to their face by destruction; he will not be slow to repay to their face those who hate him. Therefore, take care to follow the commands, decrees and laws I give you today. If you pay attention to these laws and are careful to follow them, then the Lord your God will keep his covenant of love with you, as he swore to your ancestors. He will love you and bless you and increase your numbers. He will bless the fruit of your womb, the crops of your land—your grain, new wine and olive oil—the calves of your herds and the lambs of your flocks in the land he swore to your ancestors to give you.

Leviticus 26:3-4 – “‘If you follow my decrees and are careful to obey my commands, I will send you rain in its season, and the ground will yield its crops and the trees their fruit.

Micah 7:20 – You will be faithful to Jacob, and show love to Abraham, as you pledged on oath to our ancestors in days long ago.

John 14:21 – Whoever has my commands and keeps them is the one who loves me. The one who loves me will be loved by my Father, and I too will love them and show myself to them.”

Numbers 18:12 – “I give you all the finest olive oil and all the finest new wine and grain they give the Lord as the firstfruits of their harvest.

Application:

• ·         Obedience is the key to blessing.
• ·         God had sworn to Abraham and Jacob that their descendants would be as numerous as the stars in the sky, the dust of the earth and the sand on the seashore, and He had promised Abraham that He would be the father of many nations. All believers are ultimately included in this promise.
• ·         Love for Christ and keeping His commands cannot be separated. The love of the Father cannot be separated from that of the Son.
• ·         Since the best items of produce were to be given to the Lord, these became the special foods of the priests and their families. The New Testament writers similarly argue that those who minister the word of God in the present period should also be paid suitably for their work.
