Deuteronomy
7:7-9 – The Lord did not set his affection on you and
choose you because you were more numerous than other peoples, for
you were the fewest of all peoples. But it was because the Lord loved you and kept the oath he
swore to your ancestors that he brought you out with a mighty hand and redeemed you from the land of
slavery, from the power of Pharaoh king of Egypt. Know therefore
that the Lord your God is God; he is the faithful God, keeping his covenant of
love to a thousand generations of those who love him and
keep his commandments.
Deuteronomy 4:35,37-38 – You were shown
these things so that you might know that the Lord is

chose their descendants after them, he brought you out of Egypt by his Presence
and his great strength, to drive out before you nations greater and stronger than you
and to bring you into their land to give it to you for your inheritance, as it is today.
Exodus 6:6 – “Therefore, say to the
Israelites: ‘I am the Lord, and I will bring you out from under the yoke of
the Egyptians. I will free you from being slaves to them, and I
will redeem you with an outstretched arm and
with mighty acts of judgment.

has called you into fellowship with his Son, Jesus Christ our
Lord.

Kings 8:22-23 – Then Solomon stood before the
altar of the Lord in front of the whole assembly of
Israel, spread out his hands toward heaven and said:
“Lord, the God
of Israel, there is no God like you in heaven above or on earth below—you who keep your covenant
of love with your servants who continue wholeheartedly in your way.

covenant of peace with
them and rid the land of savage beasts so that they may live in the wilderness and sleep in the
forests in safety.
Ezekiel 37:26 – I will make a
covenant of peace with them; it will be an everlasting
covenant. I will establish
them and increase their numbers, and I will put my sanctuary among them forever.
Application:
- · “He loved” is the first reference in Deuteronomy to God’s love for His people. The corollary truth is that His people should love Him.
- · Outstretched arm was used figuratively of God’s display of His power in the redemption of His people. The Lord’s acts include redemption and judgment.
- · Moses insists that there is only one God.
- · God may be trusted to do what He has promised, namely, to keep believers “firm to the end”.
- · No other god has acted in history as has the God of Israel, performing great miracles and directing the course of events so that His long-range covenant promises are fulfilled.
- · God’s faithful love assured the continuation of the nation.
- · The Hebrew for “unfailing love” denotes a strong sense of goodwill, especially such as can be relied upon in times of need. Appeal to God’s “love” is frequent in the Old Testament since it summarizes all that the Lord covenanted to show to Israel, as well as to David and his dynasty.
- · Obedience is the key to blessing.
- · All of God’s covenants aim at peace.
- · God will put His sanctuary among the Israelites again.
