Proverbs
15:33 – Wisdom’s
instruction is to fear the Lord, and humility
comes before honor.
Proverbs 1:7 – The fear of the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Luke 14:11 – For all those who exalt
themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Luke 18:14 – “I tell you that this man,
rather than the other, went home justified before God. For all those who exalt
themselves will be humbled, and those who humble themselves will be exalted.”
Application:
- · Fear of the Lord is a loving reverence for God that includes submission to his lordship and to the commands of His word.
- · “Those who humble themselves will be exalted” is a basic principle repeated often in the Bible.
- · God reckoned the tax collector to be righteous, i.e., his sins were forgiven and he was credited with righteousness—not his own but that which comes from God.
