Proverbs 15:5-8 – A fool spurns a parent’s discipline,
but whoever heeds correction shows prudence. The house of the
righteous contains great treasure, but the income of the wicked brings
ruin. The lips of the wise spread knowledge, but the
hearts of fools are not upright. The Lord detests the sacrifice of the wicked, but the prayer of
the upright pleases him.
Zechariah
8:12 – “The seed will grow well, the
vine will yield its fruit, the ground will produce its crops, and
the heavens will drop their dew. I will give all these things as an
inheritance to the remnant of this people.
Proverbs 3:9-10 – Honor the Lord with your wealth, with the firstfruits of all your crops; then your barns will be
filled to overflowing, and your vats will brim
over with new wine.
Psalm 51:17 – My
sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart
you, God, will not despise.
Ecclesiastes 5:1 – Guard your steps
when you go to the house of God. Go near to listen rather than to offer the
sacrifice of fools, who do not know that they do wrong.
Jeremiah 6:20 – What do I care about incense from Sheba or sweet
calamus from a distant land? Your burnt
offerings are not acceptable; your sacrifices do not please me.”
Application:
- · Fertility and bounty are part of the covenant blessings for obedience promised.
- · For those who bring to the Lord His tithes and offerings, God promises to pour out more blessing than they have room for.
- · What pleases God more than sacrifices is a humble heart that looks to Him when troubles crush and penitently pleads for mercy when sin has been committed.
- · Think about what you ought to say and do.
- · The attitude of one’s heart and the manner of one’s life are far more important than the ritual of sacrifice.
