Deuteronomy
31:17 – And in that day I will
become angry with them and forsake them;
I will hide my face from
them, and they will be destroyed. Many disasters and
calamities will come on them, and in that day they will ask, ‘Have not these
disasters come on us because our God is not with us?’
Ezra 8:22 – I was ashamed to ask the
king for soldiers and horsemen to protect us from
enemies on the road, because we had told the king, “The gracious hand of our
God is on everyone who looks to him, but his great anger
is against all who forsake him.”
Isaiah 50:6 – I offered
my back to those who beat me,
my cheeks to those who pulled out my beard; I did not hide my face
from mocking and spitting.
Ezekiel 39:29 – I will no longer
hide my face from them, for I will pour out my Spirit on
the people of Israel, declares the Sovereign Lord.”
Micah 3:4 – Then they
will cry out to the Lord, but he will not answer them.
At that time he will hide his face from them because of the evil they have done.
Application:
- · Scripture speaks often of unholy shame and on occasion of holy shame.
- · Beatings were for criminals or fools.
- · “I will pour out my Spirit” was the gift of God’s enabling Spirit
- · Disobedience leads to separation from God.
