Avenge

Deuteronomy 32:35 – It is mine to avenge; I will repay. In due time their foot will slip; their day of disaster is near and their doom rushes upon them.”

Genesis 4:24 – If Cain is avenged seven times, then Lamech seventy-seven times.”

Genesis 30:2 – Jacob became angry with her and said, “Am I in the place of God, who has kept you from having children?”

Application:

• ·         Avenging is God’s prerogative, not ours.
• ·         Lamech’s arrogant announcement of personal revenge found its counterpoint in Jesus’ response to Peter’s question about forgiveness.
• ·         Jacob was forever trying to secure the blessing by his own efforts. Here he has to acknowledge that the blessing of offspring could come only from God.
