They...Wither Away

Job 14:1-5 – “Mortals, born of woman, are of few days and full of trouble. They spring up like flowers and wither away; like fleeting shadows, they do not endure. Do you fix your eye on them? Will you bring them before you for judgment? Who can bring what is pure from the impure? No one! A person’s days are determined; you have decreed the number of his months and have set limits he cannot exceed.

Isaiah 40:8 – The grass withers and the flowers fall, but the word of our God endures forever.”

Job 8:8-9 – “Ask the former generation and find out what their ancestors learned, for we were born only yesterday and know nothing, and our days on earth are but a shadow.

Psalm 31:15 – My times are in your hands; deliver me from the hands of my enemies, from those who pursue me.

Application:

  • ·         The plans and purposes of the nations will not prevail.
  • ·         “Our days…are but a shadow” was a common motif in wisdom literature.
  • ·         All the events and circumstances of life are in the hands of the Lord, “my God”.
