Job
15:21-26 – Terrifying
sounds fill his ears; when all seems well, marauders attack him.
He despairs of escaping the realm of darkness; he is marked for the
sword. He wanders about for food like a vulture;
he knows the day of darkness is at hand. Distress and
anguish fill him with terror; troubles overwhelm him, like a
king poised to attack, because he shakes his fist at God and vaunts
himself against the Almighty, defiantly charging against him
with a thick, strong shield.
Isaiah 9:1-2 – Nevertheless, there will be no more gloom for those who were in distress. In the
past he humbled the land of Zebulun and the land of Naphtali, but in the future he will honor Galilee of
the nations, by the Way of the Sea, beyond the Jordan—The people walking
in darkness have seen a great light; on those living in the land of deep darkness
a light has dawned.
Psalm
2:2-3 – The kings of the earth rise up
and the rulers band together against the Lord and against his anointed, saying, “Let
us break their chains and throw off their shackles.”
Proverbs
21:30 – There is no
wisdom, no insight, no plan that can succeed against the Lord.
Application:
- · “Anointed” refers to the Davidic king and is ultimately fulfilled in Christ.
- · To rebel against the Lord’s anointed is also to rebel against the One who anointed him.
- · “No plan…can succeed against the Lord” because He is sovereign and controls people and nations.
