John 17:26-18:5 – I have made you
known to them, and will continue to make you known in order that the love you
have for me may be in them and that I myself may be in them.”
When he had finished praying, Jesus left with his disciples and
crossed the Kidron Valley. On the other side there was a garden, and he and his disciples went
into it. Now Judas, who betrayed him, knew the place, because Jesus had
often met there with his disciples. So Judas
came to the garden, guiding a detachment of soldiers and some officials from the chief priests
and the Pharisees. They were carrying torches, lanterns and weapons. Jesus,
knowing all that was going to happen to him, went out and asked them, “Who is it you want?” “Jesus of Nazareth,” they replied. “I am he,” Jesus said. (And Judas the traitor was standing there with them.)
John
16:3 – They will do such things
because they have not known the Father or me.
Acts 1:15-16 – In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group
numbering about a hundred and twenty) and said, “Brothers and sisters, the Scripture had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David
concerning Judas, who
served as guide for those who arrested Jesus.
John 6:35 – Then Jesus declared, “I am the bread of life. Whoever comes to me will never go hungry, and whoever believes in me will never be
thirsty.
John 8:58 – “Very
truly I tell you,” Jesus answered, “before Abraham was born, I am!”
Application:
- · Not to know Christ is to be ignorant of the Father.
- · Jesus was not taken by surprise.
- · John does not let us forget where Judas belonged.
- · Jesus did not say “I was” but “I am”, expressing the eternity of His being and His oneness with the Father.
