Proverbs
1:8-9 – Listen, my
son, to your father’s instruction and do
not forsake your mother’s teaching. They are a garland to grace
your head and a chain to adorn your neck.
Proverbs 2:1-5 – My son, if you
accept my words and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—indeed,
if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden
treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.
Jeremiah 35:8-9 – We have obeyed everything our forefather Jehonadab son of Rekab commanded us. Neither we nor our wives
nor our sons and daughters have ever drunk wine or built houses to live in or had vineyards,
fields or crops.
Proverbs 4:6 – Do not forsake wisdom, and she will protect you; love
her, and she will watch over you.
Application:
- · “Store up…within you” just as the psalmist hid God’s word in his heart to avoid sin.
- · Contrast “we have obeyed…Jehonadab” with Judah’s disobedience toward God.
- · To love wisdom is to prosper; to hate wisdom is to “love death”.
