“A word was secretly brought to me, my ears caught a whisper of it.
Amid disquieting dreams in the night,
when deep sleep falls on people, fear and trembling seized me and made all my bones shake. A spirit glided past my face,
and the hair on my body stood on end.
It stopped, but I could not tell what it was.
A form stood before my eyes, and I heard a hushed voice: ‘Can a mortal be more righteous than God?
Can even a strong man be more pure than his Maker?
Job

Job

Proverbs

“I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin”?
Ecclesiastes

Application:
- · If it is difficult for us to comprehend the little that we know about God, how much more impossible it would be to understand the full extent of His might!
- · In the symbolism of the occurrences with Elijah the Lord appears to be telling Elijah that although His servant’s indictment of Israel was a call for God to judge His people with windstorm, earthquake and fire, it was not God’s will to do so now.
- · The sickroom is not the place to argue theology; in times of severe suffering, people may say things that require a response of love and understanding.
- · No one is without sin—but those whose sins have been forgiven have “clean hands and a pure heart”.
- · “No one on earth…righteous” is a sober Biblical truth.
