Maker

Job 4:9-17 – At the breath of God they perish; at the blast of his anger they are no more. The lions may roar and growl, yet the teeth of the great lions are broken. The lion perishes for lack of prey, and the cubs of the lioness are scattered. “A word was secretly brought to me, my ears caught a whisper of it. Amid disquieting dreams in the night, when deep sleep falls on people, fear and trembling seized me and made all my bones shake. A spirit glided past my face, and the hair on my body stood on end. It stopped, but I could not tell what it was. A form stood before my eyes, and I heard a hushed voice: ‘Can a mortal be more righteous than God? Can even a strong man be more pure than his Maker?

Job 26:14 – And these are but the outer fringe of his works; how faint the whisper we hear of him! Who then can understand the thunder of his power?”

1 Kings 19:12 – After the earthquake came a fire, but the Lord was not in the fire. And after the fire came a gentle whisper.

Job 10:3 – Does it please you to oppress me, to spurn the work of your hands, while you smile on the plans of the wicked?

Proverbs 20:9 – Who can say, “I have kept my heart pure; I am clean and without sin”?

Ecclesiastes 7:20 – Indeed, there is no one on earth who is righteous, no one who does what is right and never sins.

Application:

• ·         If it is difficult for us to comprehend the little that we know about God, how much more impossible it would be to understand the full extent of His might!
• ·         In the symbolism of the occurrences with Elijah the Lord appears to be telling Elijah that although His servant’s indictment of Israel was a call for God to judge His people with windstorm, earthquake and fire, it was not God’s will to do so now.
• ·         The sickroom is not the place to argue theology; in times of severe suffering, people may say things that require a response of love and understanding.
• ·         No one is without sin—but those whose sins have been forgiven have “clean hands and a pure heart”.
• ·         “No one on earth…righteous” is a sober Biblical truth.
