Proverbs
10:29 – The way of
the Lord is a refuge for the blameless, but
it is the ruin of those who do evil.
Hosea 14:9 – Who is
wise? Let them realize these things. Who is
discerning? Let them understand. The ways of the Lord are right; the righteous walk in them, but the rebellious stumble in them.
Psalm 27:11 – Teach me
your way, Lord; lead me in a straight path
because of my oppressors.
2 Corinthians 2:16 – To the one we
are an aroma that brings death; to the other, an aroma that brings
life. And who is equal to such a task?
Application:
- · The prophet Hosea concludes by offering each reader the alternatives of walking or stumbling—of obedience or rebellion.
- · Only those who know and do the Lord’s will can expect to receive favorable response to their prayers.
- · Ultimately there are two kinds of people: “those who are being saved and those who are perishing”. To the latter, testifying Christians are the smell of death, not because the gospel message has become evil-smelling or death-dealing but because in rejecting the life-giving grace of God unbelievers choose death for themselves.
