Proverbs 9:8-10 – Do not rebuke mockers or they will hate you; rebuke the
wise and they will love you. Instruct the wise and they will be
wiser still; teach the righteous and they will add to their learning.
The fear of the Lord is the beginning of wisdom, and
knowledge of the Holy One is understanding.
Proverbs
1:7 – The fear of
the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but
fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 2:1-5 – My son, if you
accept my words and store up my commands within you,
turning your ear to wisdom and applying your heart to understanding—indeed,
if you call out for insight and cry aloud for understanding,
and if you look for it as for silver and search for it as for hidden
treasure, then you will understand the fear of the Lord and find the knowledge of God.
Leviticus 11:44 – I am the Lord your God; consecrate
yourselves and be holy, because
I am holy. Do not make yourselves unclean by any creature
that moves along the ground.
Application:
- · Fear of the Lord is a loving reverence for God that includes submission to his lordship and to the commands of His word.
- · “Knowledge of God” involves having a personal relationship with God and knowing what He is teaching.
- · Because of who God is and what He has done, His people must dedicate themselves fully to Him.
