If My House Were Not Right With God

2 Samuel 23:5 – “If my house were not right with God, surely he would not have made with me an everlasting covenant, arranged and secured in every part; surely he would not bring to fruition my salvation and grant me my every desire.

2 Samuel 7:14-16 – I will be his father, and he will be my son. When he does wrong, I will punish him with a rod wielded by men, with floggings inflicted by human hands. But my love will never be taken away from him, as I took it away from Saul, whom I removed from before you. Your house and your kingdom will endure forever before me; your throne will be established forever.’”

Isaiah 55:3 – Give ear and come to me; listen, that you may live. I will make an everlasting covenant with you, my faithful love promised to David.

Application:

  • ·         God promised to maintain a special relationship with the descendant of David whom He will establish on David’s throne.
  • ·         “My love” is God’s special and unfailing favor.
  • ·         The promise of an everlasting kingdom for the house of David became the focal point for many later prophecies and powerfully influenced the development of the Messianic hope in Israel.
  • ·         David had been promised an unending dynasty, one that would culminate in the Messiah.
