Judges
6:7-8 – When the
people of Israel cried out to the Lord on account of the Midianites, the Lord sent a prophet to the people of Israel.
And he said to them, “Thus says the Lord, the God of Israel: I led you up from Egypt and brought you
out of the house of slavery.
Deuteronomy
18:15-16 – “The Lord your God will raise up for you a prophet
like me from among you, from your brothers—it is to him you shall listen—just
as you desired of the Lord your God at Horeb on the day of the
assembly, when you said, ‘Let me not hear again the voice of the Lord my God or see this great fire any more,
lest I die.’
2 Kings 17:13 – Yet the Lord warned Israel and Judah by every prophet and every seer, saying, “Turn from your evil ways and keep my
commandments and my statutes, in accordance with all the Law that I commanded
your fathers, and that I sent to you by my servants the prophets.”
Judges 10:11 – And the Lord said to the people of Israel, “Did I
not save you from the Egyptians
and from the Amorites, from the Ammonites and from the Philistines?
Application:
- · The unnamed prophet rebuked Israel for forgetting that the Lord had saved them from Egyptian bondage and had given them the land.
- · Israel not only violated the requirements of the Sinai covenant, but she also spurned the words of prophets the Lord had graciously sent to call His people back to the covenant.
- · The Lord rebuked Israel for forgetting that He had delivered them from their oppressors in Canaan.
