Judges
6:13-15 – And
Gideon said to him, “Please, sir, if the Lord is with us, why then has all this happened
to us? And where are all his wonderful deeds that our fathers
recounted to us, saying, ‘Did not the Lord bring us up from Egypt?’ But now the Lord has forsaken us and given us into the hand
of Midian.” And the Lord turned to him and said, “Go in this might
of yours and save Israel from the hand of Midian; do not I send you?” And he said to him, “Please, Lord, how can I
save Israel? Behold, my clan is the weakest in Manasseh, and I
am the least in my father's house.”
1
Samuel 9:21 – Saul answered, “Am I
not a Benjaminite, from the least of the tribes of Israel? And is not my clan the humblest of all the clans of the tribe
of Benjamin? Why then have you spoken to me in this way?”
Genesis 25:23 – And the Lord said to her, “Two nations
are in your womb, and two peoples from within you shall be divided; the one shall
be stronger than the other, the older shall serve the younger.”
Application:
- · The Lord usually calls the lowly rather than the mighty to act for him.
- · God’s use of the powerless to promote His kingdom in the world is a common feature in the Biblical testimony and underscores the truth that His kingdom is not of this world.
- · God’s election of the younger son highlights the fact that God’s people are the product not of natural or worldly development but of His sovereign intervention in the affairs of men.
