Believes In Me

John 12:42-44 – Yet at the same time many even among the leaders believed in him. But because of the Pharisees they would not openly acknowledge their faith for fear they would be put out of the synagogue; for they loved human praise more than praise from God. Then Jesus cried out, “Whoever believes in me does not believe in me only, but in the one who sent me.

John 1:7 – He came as a witness to testify concerning that light, so that through him all might believe.

Romans 2:29 – No, a person is a Jew who is one inwardly; and circumcision is circumcision of the heart, by the Spirit, not by the written code. Such a person’s praise is not from other people, but from God.

John 5:24 – “Very truly I tell you, whoever hears my word and believes him who sent me has eternal life and will not be judged but has crossed over from death to life.

John 20:31 – But these are written that you may believe that Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God, and that by believing you may have life in his name.

John 4:34 – “My food,” said Jesus, “is to do the will of him who sent me and to finish his work.

Application:

  • ·         People were not to believe “in” John the Baptist but “through” him.
  • ·         The true sign of belonging to God is not an outward mark on the physical body but the regenerating power of the Holy Spirit within—what Paul meant by “circumcision of the heart”.
  • ·         Faith and life are connected.
  • ·         The whole Gospel of John is written to show the truth of Jesus’ Messiahship and to present Him as the Son of God, so that the readers may believe in Him.
  • ·         John often mentions that Jesus depended on the Father and did the work the Father sent Him to do.
