Proverbs 28:5-8 – Evildoers do not understand what is right,
but those who seek the Lord understand it fully. Better
the poor whose walk is blameless than the rich whose ways are perverse.
A discerning son heeds instruction, but a companion of gluttons
disgraces his father. Whoever increases wealth by taking interest or profit from the poor amasses it
for another, who will be kind to the poor.
Proverbs

the Lord is the beginning of knowledge, but
fools despise wisdom and instruction.
Proverbs 23:20-21 – Do not join those who drink too much wine or gorge
themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become poor,
and drowsiness clothes them in rags.
Luke 14:13-14 – But when you give a banquet, invite the poor, the crippled,
the lame, the blind, and you will be blessed. Although they cannot
repay you, you will be repaid at the resurrection of the righteous.”
Leviticus 25:36 – Do not take
interest or any profit from them, but fear your God, so
that they may continue to live among you.

- · “The righteous” are those who have been pronounced so by God on the basis of Christ’s atonement and who have evidenced their faith by their actions.
- · The main idea of not taking interest was that no one should profit in any way from another’s misfortune; rather, the needy should be given assistance.
