Proverbs 3:5,34-4:6 –
He mocks proud mockers but shows favor to the
humble and oppressed. The wise inherit honor, but fools get only shame.
Listen, my sons, to a father’s instruction; pay attention and gain
understanding. I give you sound learning, so do not forsake my teaching. For I
too was a son to my father, still tender, and cherished by my mother. Then he
taught me, and he said to me, “Take hold of my words with all your heart;
keep my commands, and you will live. Get wisdom, get understanding; do not
forget my words or turn away from them. Do not forsake wisdom, and she will
protect you; love her, and she will watch over you.
Zechariah
12:10 – “And I will pour out on the
house of David and the inhabitants of Jerusalem a spirit of grace and supplication. They will look on me, the one they have pierced, and they will mourn for him as one
mourns for an only child, and
grieve bitterly for him as one grieves for a firstborn son.
Application:
- · “Cherished” means deeply loved.
- · David challenged Solomon to serve God “with wholehearted devotion”.
- · To love wisdom is to prosper; to hate wisdom is to “love death”.
