Portion

Leviticus 1:17-2:2 – He shall tear it open by its wings, but shall not sever it completely. And the priest shall burn it on the altar, on the wood that is on the fire. It is a burnt offering, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord. “When anyone brings a grain offering as an offering to the Lord, his offering shall be of fine flour. He shall pour oil on it and put frankincense on it and bring it to Aaron's sons the priests. And he shall take from it a handful of the fine flour and oil, with all of its frankincense, and the priest shall burn this as its memorial portion on the altar, a food offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.

Psalm 16:5 – The Lord is my chosen portion and my cup; you hold my lot.

Psalm 73:26 – My flesh and my heart may fail, but God is the strength of my heart and my portion forever.

Isaiah 53:12 – Therefore I will divide him a portion with the many, and he shall divide the spoil with the strong, because he poured out his soul to death and was numbered with the transgressors; yet he bore the sin of many, and makes intercession for the transgressors.

Application:

  • ·         Since the psalmist was Asaph, a Levite, the Lord was his portion in the promised land in that he lived by the people’s tithes dedicated to the Lord.
  • ·         Asaph confesses more: The Lord Himself is his sustainer, his preserver—his very life.
  • ·         God will reward His servant as if he was a king sharing in the spoils of a great victory.
