Leviticus
1:6-9 – Then he shall
flay the burnt offering and cut it into pieces, and the sons of Aaron the priest shall put fire on the altar and arrange wood on the fire. And Aaron's sons the priests shall arrange the pieces, the head,
and the fat, on the wood that is on the fire on the altar; but its entrails and its legs he shall wash with water. And the
priest shall burn all of it on the altar, as a burnt offering, a food
offering with a pleasing aroma to the Lord.
Genesis
22:9 – When they came to the place
of which God had told him, Abraham built the altar there and laid the wood in
order and bound Isaac his son and laid him on the altar, on top of the wood.
Exodus 29:17-18 – Then you shall cut the ram into pieces, and wash its entrails and its legs,
and put them with its pieces and its head, and burn the whole ram on the altar. It is a burnt offering to
the Lord. It is a pleasing aroma, a food offering to the Lord.
Genesis 8:21 – And when the Lord smelled the pleasing aroma, the Lord said
in his heart, “I will never again curse the
ground because of man, for the intention of man's heart is evil from his
youth. Neither will I ever again strike down every living
creature as I have done.
Philippians 4:18 – I have received
full payment, and more. I am well supplied, having received from Epaphroditus the gifts you
sent, a fragrant offering, a sacrifice acceptable and pleasing to God.
Application:
- · Isaac as a sacrifice was a type of Christ.
- · Burning the entire ram symbolized total dedication.
- · Smelled the pleasing aroma was a figurative way of saying that the Lord takes delight in his children’s worship of Him.
- · Gifts are acceptable and pleasing to God because of Christ’s work for us and God’s work in us.
