Proverbs
23:20-21 – Do not join those who drink too much wine
or gorge themselves on meat, for drunkards and gluttons become
poor, and drowsiness clothes them in rags.
Habakkuk 2:15 – “Woe to him who gives drink to his neighbors, pouring it from the wineskin till
they are drunk, so that he can gaze on their naked bodies!
Proverbs 20:1 – Wine is a
mocker and beer a brawler; whoever is led
astray by them is not wise.
Ephesians 5:18-20 – Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, speaking to one another with psalms, hymns,
and songs from the Spirit. Sing and
make music from your heart to the Lord, always giving
thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of
our Lord Jesus Christ.
Application:
- · Drunkenness is condemned.
- · Those who overindulge become mockers and brawlers.
- · Proverbs associates drunkenness with poverty, strife and injustice.
- · People can be under an influence that affects them, whether of wine or of the Spirit.
