Proverbs
24:10-12 – If you
falter in a time of trouble, how small is your strength! Rescue
those being led away to death; hold back those staggering toward
slaughter. If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does
not he who weighs the heart perceive it? Does
not he who guards your life know it? Will he not repay everyone according to
what they have done?
Isaiah 58:7 – Is it not
to share your food with the hungry and to provide the poor wanderer with
shelter—when you see the naked, to clothe them, and not to turn away from your own flesh and
blood?
Psalm 5:10 – Declare
them guilty, O God! Let their intrigues be their downfall.
Banish them for their many sins, for they have rebelled against you.
Application:
- · “Share your food…provide…shelter…clothe” is the outward evidence of genuine righteousness. Jesus identified with the hungry and naked.
- · God knows even our thoughts and motives
- · The psalmists knew that those who have been wronged are not to avenge that wrong by their own hand but are to leave redress to the Lord, who says, “It is mine to avenge; I will repay”. Therefore they appeal their cases to the divine Judge.
