Samuel 15:10-11 – Then
the word of the Lord came to Samuel: “I regret that I have made Saul
king, because he has turned away from me and has not carried out my
instructions.” Samuel was angry, and he cried out to the Lord all that night.
Genesis 6:6 – The Lord regretted that
he had made human beings on the earth, and his heart was deeply troubled.
Isaiah 53:6 – We all,
like sheep, have gone astray, each of us has turned to our own way;
and the Lord has laid on him the iniquity of us all.
Ezekiel 18:24 – “But if a
righteous person turns from their righteousness and commits
sin and does the same detestable things the wicked person does, will they live?
None of the righteous things that person has done will be remembered. Because
of the unfaithfulness they are guilty of and because of the
sins they have committed, they will die.
1 Samuel 12:14 – If you fear the Lord and serve and obey him and do not
rebel against his commands, and if both you and the
king who reigns over you follow the Lord your
God—good!
Application:
- · Human sin is God’s sorrow.
- · “Laid on Him the iniquity of us all”, just as the priest laid his hands on the scapegoat and symbolically put Israel’s sins on it.
- · There are warnings against those who knowingly and willfully turn from righteousness.
- · Israel and her king were to demonstrate that although human kingship had been established, they must continue to recognize the Lord as their true King.
