Strangers

1 Chronicles 29:15-17 – For we are strangers before you and sojourners, as all our fathers were. Our days on the earth are like a shadow, and there is no abiding. O Lord our God, all this abundance that we have provided for building you a house for your holy name comes from your hand and is all your own. I know, my God, that you test the heart and have pleasure in uprightness. In the uprightness of my heart I have freely offered all these things, and now I have seen your people, who are present here, offering freely and joyously to you.

Psalm 39:12 – “Hear my prayer, O Lord, and give ear to my cry; hold not your peace at my tears! For I am a sojourner with you, a guest, like all my fathers.

Job 8:9 – For we are but of yesterday and know nothing, for our days on earth are a shadow.

Psalm 15:2-5 – He who walks blamelessly and does what is right and speaks truth in his heart; who does not slander with his tongue and does no evil to his neighbor, nor takes up a reproach against his friend; in whose eyes a vile person is despised, but who honors those who fear the Lord; who swears to his own hurt and does not change; who does not put out his money at interest and does not take a bribe against the innocent. He who does these things shall never be moved.

Application:

  • ·         David lived this life before God only as a pilgrim passing through.
  • ·         Our days are but a shadow on earth.
  • ·         Those who fear the Lord are those who honor God and order their lives in accordance with His will because of their reverence for Him.
