Job 12:11-13 – Does not the ear test words
as the tongue tastes food? Is not wisdom found among the aged? Does not long life bring understanding?

34:10 – “So listen
to me, you men of understanding. Far be it from God to do
evil, from the Almighty to do wrong.
Proverbs 21:30 – There is no wisdom, no insight, no plan
that can succeed against the Lord.
1 Corinthians 1:22-24 – Jews demand signs and Greeks look
for wisdom, but we preach Christ crucified: a stumbling block to Jews and
foolishness to Gentiles, but to those whom God has called, both Jews and Greeks, Christ
the power of God and the wisdom of
God.
Numbers 23:19 – God is not human, that he should lie,
not a human being, that he should change his mind. Does he speak
and then not act? Does he promise and not fulfill?
Daniel 1:17 – To these four
young men God gave knowledge and understanding of all kinds of literature and
learning. And Daniel could understand visions
and dreams of all kinds.
Application:
- · Job sarcastically chides his counselors for being elders and yet lacking in true wisdom.
- · “No plan that can succeed against the Lord” because He is sovereign and controls people and nations.
- · The crucified Christ is the power and the wisdom of God that saves.
- · God is sovereign in the created world, and especially in history.
- · Only by God’s special revelation was Daniel able to interpret correctly.
