1 Samuel 10:20-25 – When Samuel had all Israel come forward by
tribes, the tribe of Benjamin was taken by lot. Then he brought forward the
tribe of Benjamin, clan by clan, and Matri’s clan was taken. Finally Saul son of Kish was taken. But
when they looked for him, he was not to be found. So they inquired further of the Lord, “Has the man come here yet?” And
the Lord said, “Yes, he has hidden himself among
the supplies.” They ran and brought him out, and as he stood among the
people he was a head taller than any of the others. Samuel said to all the
people, “Do you see the man the Lord has chosen? There is no one like him among all the
people.” Then the people shouted, “Long live the king!” Samuel explained to the people the rights and duties of kingship. He wrote them down on a scroll and
deposited it before the Lord. Then Samuel dismissed the people to go
to their own homes.
Joshua
7:18 – Joshua had his family come
forward man by man, and Achan son of Karmi, the son of Zimri, the son of Zerah,
of the tribe of Judah, was chosen.
Deuteronomy 17:14-15,19-20 – When you enter the land the Lord your God is giving you and have taken possession of it and settled in it, and you say, “Let us set a king over us like all the nations
around us,” be sure to appoint over you a king the Lord your God chooses. He must be from among your fellow
Israelites. Do not
place a foreigner over you, one who is not an Israelite…It is to be with him,
and he is to read it all the days of his life so that he may learn to revere the Lord his God and follow carefully all the words of this law and
these decrees and not consider himself better than his
fellow Israelites and turn from the law to the right or to the left. Then he and his descendants will
reign a long time over his kingdom in Israel.
Application:
