Deuteronomy 28:10-12 –
Then all the peoples on earth will
see that you are called by the name of the Lord, and they will fear you. The Lord will grant you abundant prosperity—in the
fruit of your womb, the young of your livestock and the crops of your ground—in the land
he swore to your ancestors to give you. The Lord will open the heavens, the storehouse of his bounty, to send rain on your land in season and to bless all the work of your hands. You will lend
to many nations but will borrow from none.
Daniel
9:18 – Give ear, our
God, and hear; open your eyes and see the
desolation of the city that bears your Name. We
do not make requests of you because we are righteous, but because of your great
mercy.
Genesis
30:27 – But Laban said to him, “If I
have found favor in your eyes, please stay. I have learned by
divination that the Lord has
blessed me because of you.”
Psalm
135:7 – He makes
clouds rise from the ends of the earth; he sends lightning with the rain
and brings out the wind from his storehouses.
Ezekiel
34:26 – I will make them and the
places surrounding my hill a blessing. I
will send down showers in season; there will be showers of blessing.
Application:
- · God answers prayer because of His grace, not because of our works.
- · Divination was strictly forbidden to Israel because it reflected a pagan concept of the world controlled by evil forces, and therefore obviously not under the sovereign rule of the Lord.
- · The Lord, not Baal or any other god, brings the life-giving rains. The idols do not even have any “wind” in their mouths.
- · Blessing, the power of life promised to God’s people through Abraham, is beautifully symbolized in the life-giving effects of rain.
