Fear Of God

Deuteronomy 25:16-18 – For the Lord your God detests anyone who does these things, anyone who deals dishonestly. Remember what the Amalekites did to you along the way when you came out of Egypt. When you were weary and worn out, they met you on your journey and attacked all who were lagging behind; they had no fear of God.

Deuteronomy 4:10 – Remember the day you stood before the Lord your God at Horeb, when he said to me, “Assemble the people before me to hear my words so that they may learn to revere me as long as they live in the land and may teach them to their children.”

Exodus 17:15 – Moses built an altar and called it The Lord is my Banner.

Psalm 36:1 – I have a message from God in my heart concerning the sinfulness of the wicked: There is no fear of God before their eyes.

Genesis 20:11 – Abraham replied, “I said to myself, ‘There is surely no fear of God in this place, and they will kill me because of my wife.’

Application:

  • ·         The divine call to Israel to remember the Lord’s past redemptive acts—especially how He delivered them from slavery in Egypt—is a common theme in Deuteronomy and is summarized: “Remember the days of old”.
  • ·         My Banner was recalling Moses’ petition with up raised hands and testifying to the power of God displayed in defense of His people.
  • ·         The wicked take no account of God’s all-seeing eye, His righteous judgment and His power to deal with them.
  • ·         “Fear” has the sense of reverential trust in God and commitment to His revealed will.
