my tongue.
1 Samuel 2:9-10 – He will guard the feet of his faithful servants, but the
wicked will be silenced in the place of darkness. “It is not by
strength that one

High will thunder from heaven; the Lord will judge the ends of the earth. “He
will give strength to his king and exalt the horn of his anointed.”
Psalm

Isaiah
45:1-2 – “This is
what the Lord says to his anointed, to
Cyrus, whose right hand I take hold of to

I will break down gates of bronze and cut through bars of
iron.

Kings 2:2-4 – “I am
about to go the way of all the earth,” he said. “So be strong, act like a man, and observe what the Lord your God requires: Walk in obedience to
him, and keep his decrees and commands, his laws and regulations, as written in
the Law of Moses. Do this so that you may prosper in all you do and wherever
you go and that the Lord may keep his promise to me: ‘If your
descendants watch how they live, and if they walk faithfully before me with all their
heart and soul, you will never fail to have a successor on the throne of
Israel.’
Application:
- · The first reference in the Bible to the Lord’s anointed—i.e., His anointed king—is found in Hannah’s prayer.
- · David views himself as the Lord’s chosen and anointed king.
- · “Messiah” comes from the Hebrew for anointed. Cyrus, a foreign emperor, is called “His anointed” just as he is called “my shepherd”, because God has appointed him to carry out a divine commission in his role as king. The servant—Christ—is called “the Anointed One”.
- · “Walk in obedience to Him” was a characteristic expression of Deuteronomy for obedience to covenant obligations.
- · Both Solomon and his descendants fell short of their covenant obligations.
