1 Chronicles
27:34-28:4 – Ahithophel was succeeded by Jehoiada the
son of Benaiah, and Abiathar. Joab was commander of the king's army. David
assembled at Jerusalem all the officials of Israel, the officials of the
tribes, the officers of the divisions that served the king, the commanders
of thousands, the commanders of hundreds, the stewards of all the property
and livestock of the king and his sons, together with the palace officials, the mighty
men and all the seasoned warriors. Then King David rose to his feet and said:
“Hear me, my brothers and my people. I had it in my heart to build a house
of rest for the ark of the covenant of the Lord and
for the footstool of our God, and I made preparations for building. But
God said to me, ‘You may not build a house for my name, for you are a man
of war and have shed blood.’ Yet the Lord God
of Israel chose me from all my father's house to be king over Israel forever.
For he chose Judah as leader, and in the house of Judah my father's house,
and among my father's sons he took pleasure in me to make me king over all
Israel.

Kings 2:1-4 – When
David's time to die drew near, he commanded Solomon his son, saying, “I am about to
go the way of all the earth. Be strong, and show yourself a man, and keep the
charge of the Lord your God, walking in his
ways and keeping his statutes, his commandments, his rules, and his
testimonies, as it is written in the Law of Moses, that you may prosper in
all that you do and wherever you turn, that the Lord may establish his word that
he spoke concerning me, saying, ‘If your sons pay close attention to their
way, to walk before me in faithfulness with all their heart and
with all their soul, you shall not lack a man on the throne of
Israel.’
1 Samuel 16:7 – But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not look on his appearance or on the height of his
stature, because I have rejected him. For the Lord sees
not as man sees: man looks on the outward appearance, but the Lord looks
on the heart.”
Genesis 49:10 – The scepter
shall not depart from Judah, nor the ruler's staff from between his feet, until tribute comes to
him; and to him shall be the obedience of the peoples.
Numbers
24:15-17 – And he took up his discourse and said,
“The oracle of Balaam the son of Beor, the oracle of the man whose eye
is opened, the oracle of him who hears the words of God, and
knows the knowledge of the Most High, who sees the vision of the Almighty,
falling down with his eyes uncovered: I see him, but not now;
I behold him, but not near: a star shall come out of Jacob,
and a scepter shall rise out of Israel; it shall crush the forehead of Moab and break down all
the sons of Sheth.
