Leviticus 11:24-33 – “And by these you shall become unclean.
Whoever touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening, and whoever carries
any part of their carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening. Every animal that
parts the hoof but is not cloven-footed or does not chew the cud is unclean to
you. Everyone who touches them shall be unclean. And all that walk on
their paws, among the animals that go on all fours, are unclean to you. Whoever
touches their carcass shall be unclean until the evening, and he who carries
their carcass shall wash his clothes and be unclean until the evening;
they are unclean to you. “And these are unclean to you among the
swarming things that swarm on the ground: the mole rat, the mouse, the great lizard of any kind, the gecko, the
monitor lizard, the lizard, the sand lizard, and the chameleon. These are unclean to
you among all that swarm. Whoever touches them when they are dead shall be
unclean until the evening. And anything on which
any of them falls when they are dead shall be unclean, whether it is an article
of wood or a garment or a skin or a sack, any article that is used for any
purpose. It must
be put into water, and it shall be unclean until the evening; then it shall be
clean. And if any of them falls into any
earthenware vessel, all that is in it shall be unclean, and you shall break it.
Hebrews 9:8-10 – By this the
Holy Spirit indicates that the way into the holy places is not yet opened as
long as the first section is still standing (which is symbolic for the present age). According to this
arrangement, gifts and sacrifices are offered that cannot perfect the
conscience of the worshiper, but deal only with food and drink and various washings,
regulations for the body imposed until the time of reformation.
Numbers 19:18 – Then a clean person
shall take hyssop and dip it in the water and sprinkle it on the tent and on all
the furnishings and on the persons who were there and on whoever touched the
bone, or the slain or the dead or the grave.
Application:
- · The new order is the new covenant, with its new priesthood, new sanctuary and new sacrifice, all introduced by Christ.
- · The cleansing power of the blood of Christ is specifically contrasted with the cleansing effectiveness of the water of the ashes of the red heifer.
