John 6:70-7:1 – Then Jesus replied, “Have I not chosen you, the Twelve? Yet one of you is a devil!” (He meant Judas, the son
of Simon Iscariot, who, though one of the Twelve, was later to betray him.)
After this, Jesus went around in Galilee. He did not want to go about in Judea because the Jewish
leaders there were looking for a way to kill him.
John
15:16 – You did not choose me, but I
chose you and appointed you so that you might go and bear fruit—fruit that will last—and so that whatever you ask in my name
the Father will give you.
John 17:12 – While I was with them, I
protected them and kept them safe by that name you gave me. None has
been lost except the one doomed to destruction so that Scripture would be fulfilled.
John 8:59 – At this, they picked up
stones to stone him, but Jesus hid himself, slipping away from the temple grounds.
Application:
- · Jesus chose the Twelve, and for a purpose—the bearing of fruit.
- · “The one doomed to destruction” was, literally “the son of destruction, i.e., one belonging to the sphere of damnation and destined for destruction.
- · When Jesus declares “I am”, there are only two possible responses: to reach for a rock or to fall at His feet.
