Samuel 2:3 – “Do
not keep talking so proudly or let your mouth speak such arrogance,
for the Lord is a God who knows, and by him deeds are weighed.
1 Samuel 16:7 – But the Lord said to Samuel, “Do not consider his
appearance or his height, for I have rejected him. The Lord does not look at the things people
look at. People look at the outward appearance, but
the Lord looks
at the heart.”
1 Kings 8:37-40 – “When famine or plague comes to the land, or blight or mildew, locusts or grasshoppers, or when an enemy besieges them in any of their cities,
whatever disaster or disease may come, and when a prayer or plea is made by anyone
among your people Israel—being aware of the afflictions of their own hearts,
and spreading out their hands toward
this temple—then hear from
heaven, your dwelling place. Forgive and act; deal with everyone according to all they do, since
you know their hearts (for you alone know every human
heart), so that they will fear you all the time they live in the land you gave our ancestors.
Proverbs 24:12 – If you say, “But we knew nothing about this,” does not
he who weighs the heart
perceive it? Does not he who guards your life know it? Will
he not repay everyone
according to what they have done?
Application:
- · The Lord is concerned with person’s inner disposition and character.
- · “Deal with everyone according to all they do” is not to be viewed as a request for retribution for the wrong committed, but as a desire for whatever discipline God in His wisdom may use to correct His people and to instruct them in the way of the covenant.
- · God knows even our thoughts and motives.
