2 Chronicles 6:36-40 –
“When they sin against you—for there
is no one who does not sin—and you become angry with them and give them over to
the enemy, who takes them captive to a land far away or near; and if they have a change
of heart in the
land where they are held captive, and repent and plead with you in the land of
their captivity and say, ‘We have sinned, we have done wrong and acted
wickedly’; and if they turn back to you with all their heart and soul in
the land of their captivity where they were taken, and pray toward the land you
gave their ancestors, toward the city you have chosen and toward the temple I
have built for your Name; then from heaven, your
dwelling place, hear their prayer and their pleas, and uphold their cause. And
forgive your people, who have sinned against you.
“Now, my God, may your eyes be open and your ears attentive to the prayers offered in this place.
Jeremiah
24:7 – I will give them a heart to
know me, that I am the Lord. They will be my people, and
I will be their God, for they will return to
me with all their heart.
Nehemiah 1:5-6 – Then I said: “Lord, the God of heaven, the great and awesome
God, who keeps his covenant of love with those who love him and keep his
commandments, let your ear be attentive and your eyes open to hear the prayer your servant is praying before you day and
night for your servants, the people of Israel. I confess the sins we Israelites, including myself
and my father’s family, have committed against you.
2 Chronicles 5:13-14 –
The trumpeters and musicians joined
in unison to give praise and thanks to the Lord. Accompanied by trumpets, cymbals and
other instruments, the singers raised their voices in praise to the Lord and sang: “He is good; his
love endures forever.” Then the temple of the Lord was filled with the cloud, and the priests could not
perform their service because of the cloud, for the glory of the Lord filled the temple of God.
Application:
- · “They will be my people and I will be their God” was the classic statement of covenant relationship.
- · A true sense of the awesome holiness of God reveals the depths of our own sinfulness.
- · The glory cloud represented the presence of God. It had guided Israel out of Egypt and through the wilderness and was present above the tabernacle.
