1 Chronicles 15:24-27
– Shebaniah, Joshaphat, Nethanel,
Amasai, Zechariah, Benaiah, and Eliezer, the priests, should blow the trumpets before the ark of God. Obed-edom and Jehiah were to be
gatekeepers for the ark. So David and the elders of Israel and the
commanders of thousands went to bring up the ark of the covenant of the Lord from the house of Obed-edom with rejoicing. And because God helped the
Levites who were carrying the ark of the covenant of the Lord, they sacrificed seven bulls and seven rams. David was clothed with a
robe of fine linen, as also were all the Levites who were carrying the ark, and
the singers and Chenaniah the leader of the music of the singers. And David
wore a linen ephod.
Jeremiah
3:16 – And when you have multiplied
and been fruitful in the land, in those days, declares the
Lord, they shall no more say, “The ark of the covenant
of the Lord.” It shall not come to mind or be remembered or
missed; it shall not be made again.
Zechariah
6:11-12 – Take from
them silver and gold, and make a crown, and set it on the head of Joshua, the son of
Jehozadak, the high priest. And say to
him, ‘Thus says the Lord of hosts, “Behold, the
man whose name is the Branch: for he shall branch out from
his place, and he shall build the temple of the Lord.
Application:
- · The ark of the covenant, formerly symbolizing God’s royal presence, became irrelevant when the Messiah came.
- · 1 Chronicles viewed David as a priest-king, a kind of Messianic figure.
- · The royal crowning of the high priest foreshadows the goal and consummation of prophecy—the crowning and reign of the Messianic King-Priest.
